Awards and Recognition

The Board and staff of the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority are all committed to providing the highest quality utility services to our customers.  This commitment is evident through the awards, certifications and recognitions consistently earned by the ECUA.

 

2014

  • Received two Peak Performance Awards from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA).  ECUA received the Gold Peak Performance Award for the operation of the ECUA’s Central Water Reclamation Facility (CWRF) during the 2013 calendar year.  The Gold Award recognizes 100-percent compliance with the facility’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the reporting year.  ECUA received the Silver Peak Performance Award for the 2013 operation of the Bayou Marcus Water Reclamation Facility (BMWRF).  The Silver Award recognizes near-perfect compliance with the facility’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the reporting year, with only one permit violation at the BMWRF.
  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for FY 2013.  This is the 26th consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award.

2013

  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for FY 2012.  This is the 25th consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award.
  • Received the Silver Peak Performance Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) for the operation of the ECUA’s Central Water Reclamation Facility (CWRF) during the 2012 calendar year.  The Silver Award recognizes near-perfect compliance with the facility’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the reporting year, with only one permit violation at the CWRF.

 

2012

  • The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) presented the ECUA with two
    awards through its 2012 Excellence Awards program.  The ECUA was honored with the prestigious
    Gold Award in the Public Education category, and the Bronze Award in the Collections Systems category. 
    The Gold Award honors the outstanding public education campaign ECUA developed and utilized in the
    start-up and subsequent enhancements of its curbside recycling program.  The Bronze Award recognizes ECUA’s comprehensive automated collection program which serves 74,000 residential and 1,100 commercial customers in our community.  The awards were presented at SWANA’s annual WASTECON conference, held in Washington DC, in August 2012. 
  • The ECUA was the recipient of the 2012 National Environmental Achievement Award in the Operations & Environmental Performance category for the Main Street Replacement Project.  The award was presented to ECUA by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) in February 2012.
  • The Main Street Wastewater Treatment Plant Replacement Project was recognized by Water & Waste Digest through its inclusion in their list of Water and Wastewater Top Projects for 2011.  The project"s appearance in this Top Ten list is notable in that it is a first for ECUA.  The editors of Water & Waste Digest remarked that the project’s water reuse program with its industrial partners puts the project “in a class of its own.”

 

2011

  • Received the Gold Peak Performance Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) for operation of the ECUA’s Bayou Marcus Water Reclamation Facility during 2010.  The Gold Award recognizes 100-percent compliance with the facility’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the reporting year.   
  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for FY 2010.  This is the 23rd consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award. 
  • Earned designation as a top-three finalist for the 2011 Global Water Reuse Project of the Year competition, which was sponsored by Global Water Intelligence. 
  • Selected to receive three ADDY Awards from the American Advertising Federation (AAF) for ECUA advertising entries, working in concert with E.W. Bullock Associates.  Received Gold ADDY for the ECUA – Recycle Web Banner; Silver ADDY for the ECUA Annual Report; and a Bronze ADDY for the ECUA – Recycle Billboard Campaign. 

 

2010

  • Recipient of the Sustainable Partnership Award (through working with Gulf Power) for the Sustainable Florida – Collins Center 2010 Best Practices Awards Program.  This award recognized the partnership between ECUA and Gulf Power in developing a reuse program for reclaimed water from the new Central Water Reclamation Facility (CWRF).
  • Received three Silver Peak Performance Awards from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) for operation of the ECUA’s Main Street Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Bayou Marcus Water Reclamation Facility, and the Pensacola Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant during 2009.  The Silver Award recognizes compliance with a facility’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit with five or fewer permit violations for the reporting year.
  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s FY 2009 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  This is the 22nd consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award. 

 

2009

  • Received two Silver Peak Performance Awards from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) for operation of the ECUA’s Bayou Marcus Water Reclamation Facility, and the Pensacola Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant during 2008.  The Silver Award recognizes compliance with a facility’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit with five or fewer permit violations for the reporting year.
  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s FY 2008 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  This is the 21st consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award. 
  • ECUA’s 2008 Water Quality Report (annual Consumer Confidence Report or CCR) was selected to represent the Northwest Florida District at the state level in the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) CCR Awards Program. 
  • ECUA’s drinking water was selected as the Best Tasting Water in a competition sponsored by Region IX – Florida Section/American Water Works Association.  This was the third time in a five-year period that the ECUA won this competition. 

 

2008

  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s FY 2007 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  This is the 20th consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award.

  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s FY 2006 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  This is the 19th consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award.

  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s FY 2005 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  This is the 18th consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award.
  • Recipient of the 2006 National Environmental Achievement Award in the Member Agency Public Service category for work associated with establishing the Florida Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network (FlaWARN).  The award was presented to ECUA by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA).
  • ECUA’s drinking water was selected as the Best Tasting Water in a competition sponsored by Region IX – Florida Section/American Water Works Association.  This was the second consecutive year the ECUA won this competition.

 

2005

  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s FY 2004 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  This is the 17th consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award.
  • ECUA’s drinking water was selected as the Best Tasting Water in a competition sponsored by Region IX – Florida Section/American Water Works Association.

  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s FY 2003 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  This is the 16th consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award.

  • Received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the ECUA’s FY 2002 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  This is the 15th consecutive year that the ECUA has been honored with this award.
