ECUA Awarded "Certificate Of Achievement For Excellence In Financial Reporting"

Authority Receives Recognition for 25th Consecutive Year

On Wednesday, March 19, 2014, Mr. David Lister, of Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gund, notified the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority’s (ECUA) Citizens’ Advisory Committee, that the Authority has received the prestigious “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” award, by the Government Finance Officers Association, which is the preeminent professional association for government finance.

Mr. Lister, shareholder in charge of the ECUA audit reported, “The reporting period was the 25th consecutive year that ECUA has received the recognition and is a very significant benchmark, a significant accomplishment, that reflects the commitment ECUA has as a Board and a staff to both accurate financial reporting, making sure that the organization is disclosing all the things that the public and the customer base needs to see. Further, this is a very noteworthy milestone to reach to have this awarded for 25 consecutive years.”

Lister added, “It is not common for an organization of ECUA’s size to receive the award and is an accomplishment to be extremely proud. There are many municipalities, local governments, who may receive the award for a number of years, then have some problems, and then they don’t receive it, but to receive it uninterrupted for 25 years is something that demonstrates a commitment to transparency and accurate financial reporting and making sure the highest standards in financial reporting are met.”
ECUA Executive Director, Stephen E. Sorrell stated, “This is one of the best audits I’ve seen in my entire career. It is as clean and positive as you could possibly get. Further, it is a true telling of the transparency of the ECUA and that our accounting methods are meeting all government standards and that the financial position is very stable. The ECUA Board is to be complimented as well as the ECUA finance staff.”
