Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) employees raised $8,046.00 for the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) “2011 Relay FOR Life of Pensacola.”  TEAM ECUA’s donation was the result of a year-long fund raising effort, which culminated with participation in the 18 hour community event held at Washington High School on Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21, 2011.

The annual ACS event is dedicated to the elimination and prevention of cancer as a major health problem, saving lives, and diminishing the suffering through research, education, advocacy, and service. In 2011, TEAM ECUA was recognized as the Group overall winner.

“The participation of the ECUA employees is priceless. Their volunteerism efforts on the leadership committee, in-kind donations, and the hard work they put into fund-raising truly shows their dedication to the mission of the American Cancer Society, saving lives and celebrating more birthdays every year,” said Ms. Jessica James, associate director for the Escambia and Santa Rosa Unit of ACS, Florida Division.

According to Stephen Burgess, ECUA’s deputy executive director of customer service, “The Relay FOR Life is an exciting and important fund-raising event. It gives us an opportunity to remember those loved ones who have lost this battle, and coworkers, family and friends, who are currently battling this disease.”

The Relay FOR Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event. ECUA employees have participated for 16 years contributing over $222,000 in the fight against cancer.
