The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) Recycling Program debuted on January 5, 2009, as part of the regular residential sanitation service. Now, as the program nears its three-year anniversary, 44,857 customers, or 60% of ECUA’s sanitation customers are participating in the program.

WEAR TV Morning Show Host Lena DeFlores reports on the ECUA Curbside Recycling Success

During the week of November 28, 2011, the ECUA Curbside Recycling Program collected a total of 262 tons of recyclable materials. According to Randy Rudd, ECUA acting deputy director of shared services, “This is the highest weekly total since the program’s inception in January 2009; and the program continues to evolve with tremendous success.”

The Recycling Program staff delivers approximately 50 new cans every week to customers who have requested to begin recycling. “We are currently collecting over 199 tons of recyclable materials per week, which is the current average weekly tonnage for the year-to-date on all ECUA routes,” added Rudd.
