ECUA's Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Program
04/08/2012

ECUA’s Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Program makes disposal of unwanted hazardous waste materials easy and environmentally safe!

A trip to the landfill is now a “thing of the past” when you take advantage of the ECUA’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program. It’s easy to participate and a great way to dispose of unwanted hazardous materials in an environmentally responsible way.  And the best part, the Program is part of your residential sanitation service at NO additional charge.

Here’s how-it-works. When you’re ready to have the materials collected from your residence, simply email us at customer.service@ecua.fl.gov, or call Customer Service @ 476-0480, to request a free pick-up of your HHW items once per month.   The collection will be made on the first Saturday of the month following the request.

When you call to make your request, our Customer Service Specialist (CSS) will ask you what HHW items you wish to have picked up. The CSS will provide you with instructions on how best to prepare those items.  You’ll be directed to place the HHW at the front door step or garage door on the day of collection (preferably not at the curb to prevent vandalism or a potential safety hazard).  Please make sure that your HHW items are in leak-proof containers or encased in a plastic bag, and to label the contents of the container, if the material is not in the original manufacturer’s container.

Hazardous Items that are accepted and are not accepted can be found on the ECUA website. Access the “Sanitation Services” menu and scroll down to the HHW Program information.

Together, we can keep our community beautiful in an environmentally responsible way!
